Daniel W. Mooers began
representing people in Maine in 1968 when he graduated from the University
of Maine School of Law and joined the Portland law firm of Bennett,
Schwarz & Reef as an associate. The following year Norman Reef and
Daniel Mooers established the law firm of Reef & Mooers, first
with an office on Congress Street in Portland and then later for many years
on Portland’s Pearl Street, next to both the state and federal courts. Known
first for representing people injured in automobile and industrial
accidents, Reef & Mooers promptly gained a reputation as
unyielding litigators, using commitment and skill to assist their clients,
and soon they expanded with an extensive commercial litigation and business
practice. They also became known for taking unusual and complicated cases
other lawyers would not accept or which were thought too difficult to
